Safety First

BRACE YOURSELF
Neck sprains and strains (also called whiplash) are among the most common injuries from automobile crashes. These injuries can cause headaches, facial pain and chronic nerve problems. That’s unfortunate since many could be prevented by using head restraints.

American vehicles manufactured since 1969 are equipped with front-seat head restraints. Some restraints are adjustable, some fixed in place. When buying a new or used vehicle, make sure fixed restraints are positioned as near the top of your head as possible. Restraints should be within 3-1/2 inches of the top of your head.

When you get into a vehicle with an adjustable restraint, position the head rest and lock it into place before you fasten your seat belt.
